STOCKHOLM, Maine – Maine State Police remained tight-lipped Tuesday about a break-in that took place at the Stockholm VFW Post.

The incident was discovered Monday and reported to investigators at Troop F in Houlton.

State Police Sgt. Brian Harris said Tuesday that Trooper Shawn Whalen responded to the scene after the burglary of the Main Street building was discovered.

Harris said someone entered the building and caused “significant damage” to the interior of the facility. Several items are missing from the building, but Harris said he could not yet reveal what was taken.

Members of the State Police evidence response team were on the scene gathering clues, and Harris said that they were able to recover several pieces of evidence. Those items are being processed.

Harris said more information would be forthcoming, but added the investigation is still in the beginning stages.
