BREWER – Heather M. Pelkey, 34, died Friday, July 15, 2011, at a Bangor hospital from heart complications. She was born March 16, 1977, in Bangor, daughter of Peter and Sherry (Kim) Pelkey.
Heather was a graduate of Brewer High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine at Farmington, and continued two more years of education at the University of Maine, Orono, so she could teach both elementary and special education. Heather enjoyed cooking, baking, teaching, traveling and crafts. She especially enjoyed swimming in her mother’s pool. She loved her time as a volunteer candy striper at Eastern Maine Medical Center during her high school years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor, where she was also a volunteer for religious education Sunday school, of which her 7-year-old daughter attended. Heather was an assistant Daisy Scout leader of her daughter’s Daisy troop. Her daughter and family were the most important part of her life and she loved being a god-mother to baby Ryan Soucy. She will always be remembered for her bubbly personality, sense of humor and smile. Heather worked at Acadia Hospital with the children’s partial and adolescent program up until the time of her passing. Heather adored her daughter, Korea and loved doing activities with her. Korea was her miracle baby and was the light of her life. Heather also loved facebooking with her family and friends especially her great-uncle, Charles Williams; and cousin, Carmel Boswell, both of Florida.
In addition to her mother, Heather is survived by her daughter, Korea "Kori" Pelkey; sister, Lynn Keeran and her husband, Wayne and their children: her favorite niece, Leilani Pelkey and favorite nephew, Taylor Keeran, all of Eddington; maternal grandmother, Sunhee Kim; aunts and uncles, Coralee Levasseur and her husband, Wayne, of Bangor, David Pelkey and his wife, Baerbel, of Bucksport, Steve Pelkey of Hermon, Corinne Pace of Fairfield, Clyde Pelkey, Heather’s godfather, and his wife, Judy, of Bangor, Hazel Chick, Heather’s godmother, and her husband, Jim, of Hermon, Chungsuk Kim and her husband, Yunsue Hun, of South Korea, Chungson Kim of South Korea, Chungboon Kim and her husband, Chulsheek Yoon, of South Korea and Jungie Kim, of South Korea; many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. In addition to her father, Heather was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Nina Pelkey, and Clyde and Elaine Pelkey; and maternal grandfather, Inmuk Kim. Heather will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. RIP Heather, we love you so much.
Friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. Interment will be after at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio Street, Bangor. After services, relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
