Mainers face another special election

AUGUSTA, Maine — For the fourth time this year, Mainers will be going to the polls for a special election to fill a legislative seat.

The departure of state Sen. David Trahan will force an election that the Portland Press Herald says is expected to be held in November.

Trahan, R-Waldoboro, is taking a job as executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine. Voters will choose a successor for his seat, which represents 21 towns in Lincoln County, two in Knox County and the Kennebec County town of Windsor.

On Aug. 16, a special election will fill the seat of former Rep. Cynthia Dill, D-Cape Elizabeth, who succeeded state Sen. Larry Bliss after he resigned in March.

Beth Turner won a March special election to succeed the late Rep. Everett McLeod Sr.
