MATINICUS, Maine — Authorities said a plane carrying four people crashed into the water off the Maine coast.

Zachary Curtis with the Knox Regional Communications Center said the crash happened Sunday night off Matinicus Island. The island is about 20 miles east of Maine’s coast.

Curtis says the plane was from Penobscot Island Air, which offers flights between Knox County Regional Airport and Penobscot Bay Island communities.

The Coast Guard was at the crash site as of about 9:45 p.m. Sunday. Curtis said there were no fatalities.
