ROCKPORT — Join the Bug Safari workshop for children and adults at Merryspring Nature Center 1-3 p.m. Sunday July 24 and meet local insects face-to-face.

Participants will make “bug suckers” or aspirators for “catch-and-release” bug-hunting. Through activities and crafts, children will learn about these tiny critters and how they are so important to our planet. The last half of the program will be a hike around the park to look for insects in the gardens, forests, and fields.

“Bug Safari,” is part of Merryspring’s Nature Explorers series, led by Environmental Educator Sarah Lambson, and is offered on the 4th Sunday of the month from June through September, which introduces a different nature-based topic each month. A second series, Outdoor Adventures, is offered on the second Sunday of each month through September, and focuses on a different family-friendly, outdoor activity each month.

Family programs are sponsored in part by Camden National Bank and offered free of charge. Activities are designed for ages 5-12 but are open to all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult. In case of rain, activities will be moved indoors and the program will only run until 2:00pm.

Merryspring is a member-supported, non-profit nature education center and park located at the end of Conway Road just off Rt. 1 by the Hannaford shopping plaza in Camden. For more information, call Merryspring at 236-2239 or visit the website at
