ALFRED, Maine — A correctional officer is due in court to answer charges stemming from an alleged assault on an inmate at the York County jail in Alfred.

Daniel Roy is due in court Friday on charges of assault and criminal threatening.

Roy and three other correctional officers were placed on administrative leave after they were indicted in connection to the incident involving an inmate in April.

York County Sheriff Maurice Ouellette said the incident happened while the officers were removing an inmate from a maximum security cell and placing him in a restraining chair. Ouellette wouldn’t provide additional details.

WMTW-TV said Roy and another officer, Michael Pitts, were charged with assault and criminal threatening while officers Roger Souliere and John Sibya were charged with assault, criminal threatening and reckless conduct.
