NEWPORT — Two teenager drivers collided shortly after 5 p.m. Friday on Route 2 when one passed the other, who was making a sudden righthand turn, on the right to avoid a rear-end collision.

Hailey Pollard, 17, of Hartland was traveling west on Route 2 when she abruptly slowed her 2002 Mazda to make a right turn onto a private road near Angler’s Restaurant, Newport police Sgt. Sanger Davis said.

Cody Salley, 17, of Augusta swerved his 1999 KIA to the right and onto the private road to avoid hitting the Mazda, Davis said. Pollard struck Salley’s car when she finished making the turn.

Pollard was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield as a precaution, where she was treated and then released, the sergeant said.

Neither Salley nor his three passengers were injured.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and no air bags deployed during the crash.

Each car had about $1,500 worth of damage.
