Ellsworth woman insists on being arrested in flag theft

ELLSWORTH — Two residents are facing theft charges after reportedly taking an American flag from a local business, according to police.

Jacob Murphy, 31, was arrested early Friday morning after he was allegedly found with a flag that witnesses said had been taken from a High Street business. Lt. Harold Page with the Ellsworth Police Department said Murphy and two companions appeared to be intoxicated at the time.

One of Murphy’s companions, Crystal Thomas, 31, later came into the Ellsworth Police Department to confess to the theft. Page said Thomas was issued a summons for the theft but she insisted on being arrested as well. Police granted the request after she refused to leave the station, charging her with criminal trespassing as well.
