Health groups merge to improve children’s health care

Posted July 15, 2011, at 8:29 p.m.

The Maine Primary Care Association and the Maine Assembly of School Based Health Centers announced on Friday that they have merged. The affiliation of the two organizations aims to improve the health of medically underserved Mainers, according to a news release Friday from the Maine Primary Care Association.

The two groups already collaborate on efforts such as emergency preparedness, MaineCare outreach and community development.

“There is arguably nothing more important than the health and welfare of today’s generation of children and providing them the [health care] basis to reach their full potential,” said Kevin Lewis of the Maine Primary Care Association. “Access to comprehensive health care services is a necessary precondition to kids’ growth and development.”
