Calais, Acadians split Legion baseball twinbill

CALAIS — Josh Gale hit a grand slam and a single in the first inning and later added a two-run double as the Acadians topped Calais 24-12 in the first game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader Thursday.
Calais rebounded with a 11-3 victory in the second game.
In the first game, Rob Logue posted two singles, a double and two RBIs for the Acadians. Andrew Giosia hit a solo home run and a single while Ben Eley singled twice with an RBI.
Nick Pineo led Calais with two singles, a double and an RBI.
In the second game, Calais (9-12) notched eight runs in the second inning en route to the win. Tyler Varney collected two singles, a double and an RBI. Adam Geel doubled twice and knocked in a run. Andy Brown singled twice with an RBI while Tom Collins added a two-run single.
Giosia doubled, singled and drove in two runs for the 3-18 Acadians. Rob Logue and Schuyler Van der Eb chipped in with two singles apiece.
