Unpaid fines land Old Town man in jail

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

OLD TOWN, Maine — A local man who has a previous conviction for operating under the influence of alcohol was arrested downtown on Tuesday, police Detective Tom Adams said.

Thomas Carr, 71, was reported missing by the staff of the Penobscot River House, where he lives, after his mailbox began to overflow, and when Sgt. Scott Casey found him in downtown Old Town, the sergeant discovered Carr had active warrants for unpaid OUI and operating after suspension fines and subsequently look him to jail.

“He didn’t pay the fines [or] show up in court to say why he couldn’t pay that fine,” said Adams.

Carr was released on bail Wednesday.
