Funds being raised for Sebec’s bicentennial celebration

SEBEC, Maine — A local committee has been meeting for months to raise funds for Sebec’s 200th birthday celebration, planned for July 21, 2012.

An array of activities is planned for this summer, starting with a country music show at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 23, with Jay and Tammy Roy at the 4 Corners Event Center in Sebec. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Jay Roy won the 2011 and 2010 Fame Award for Musician of the Year and Lead Guitar of the Year. Tammy Roy won the 2010 Fame Award for Bassist of the Year, Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year for “On My Father’s Side.”

In addition to the music, tickets will be sold for a special celebration quilt made by Sue Small and Joan Baird of Sebec, refreshments will be on sale and there will be door prizes. Seats are limited for the event. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 564-2772.

Next month, a pancake breakfast will be served in the Historical Wyman Store in Sebec. The meal will be served starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. A silent auction will be offered from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Sebec Reading Room. Anyone wishing to donate items for the auction can drop them off at the town office or call Sue Small at 564-7079.

The committee will meet next at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, in the town office.
