Milo man arrested after hitting girlfriend, police say

DEXTER, Maine — A Milo man was arrested Wednesday for violation of a protection order and domestic violence assault, according to Dexter police Officer Dana Gatcomb. Brent Smith, 22, was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where his bail was set at $2,000 cash.

Sgt. Kevin Wintle, who assisted Gatcomb, said Smith had a verbal argument with his girlfriend, of Garland, that started as they were driving in Palmyra and continued until the couple reached Dexter, where Smith allegedly hit the woman on her leg. The couple’s 1-year-old child was in the back seat of the motor vehicle during the incident, so the Department of Health and Human Services was called, he said. Wintle said Smith alleged that his girlfriend struck him in the face first.
