Bess The Book Bus plans visit to Lincoln library

LINCOLN, Maine — Bess the Book Bus will visit the Lincoln Memorial Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at 21 West Broadway in Lincoln.

Bess the Book Bus is dedicated to reading to children, promoting literacy and getting books into the homes of children.

The Lincoln Memorial Library is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. It offers large collection of children books as well as weekly programs throughout the year. For more information, call 794-2765.

Orrington Historical Society changes venue for potluck supper

ORRINGTON, Maine — The Orrington Historical Society will host a Christmas in July potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at 103 Johnson Road in East Orrington. Lincoln Memorial Library to host poetry readings

LINCOLN, Maine — The Lincoln Memorial Library and poet Pat Smith Ranzoni will host a poetry program at 4 p.m. Friday, July 22, at 21 West Broadway in Lincoln. This free event will feature round-robin readings by area voices reading their own poems.

Ranzoni, an award-winning poet, will sign copies of her latest work, “From Here, Poems from Being Born in Lincoln, Maine, Homecoming Edition.”

Brewer Credit Union to hold school supply drive

Sen. Collins’ staff holding office hours in Fairfield, Bingham

FAIRFIELD, Maine — An Augusta representative to U.S. Sen. Susan Collins will hold office hours noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 at the Fairfield Town Office and 3-4 p.m. at the Bingham Town Office on the same day. Staff assistant Chuck Mahaleris will be available to provide assistance with federal issues and agencies, such as Social Security, Veterans Affairs and Citizenship and Immigration. Summer organ series at St. John’s Catholic Church

BANGOR, Maine — The St. John’s Organ Society will host its first program in the Summer Recital Series from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church on 207 York St. Carlton T. Russell will play “Music from Salem: Works by Dan Locklair and Margaret Vardell Sandresky.” Every Thursday through Aug. 25 will feature an hourlong recital by a different organist. Amicus photo exhibit and reception at Bangor Public Library

BANGOR, Maine — Twenty-five photographers from Penobscot Valley Industries will exhibit photographs at the Bangor Public Library Lecture Hall during the month of August. “Changing Seasons” is the theme of the exhibit. U.S. Cellular offering free device workshop

BANGOR, Maine — U.S. Cellular is offering a free workshop for smartphone users from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at 33 Bangor Mall Boulevard. Attendees will be guided through all the features and functions of their Android-powered, Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices. Attendees don’t have to be U.S. Cellular customers.
