Acadian stars capture District 1 title

ELLSWORTH — Oliver Johnston pitched three scoreless innings as the Acadian Little League all-stars held off Ellsworth 15-9 for the District 1 championship for ages 9-10 in a baseball game halted after five innings due to darkness Tuesday.

Ellsworth held a 9-1 lead after two innings, but Acadian rallied for 11 runs and the lead in the top of the third. Johnston came in after a rain delay and kept Ellsworth off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

In addition to his pitching, Johnston rapped a double and three singles and collected three RBIs. Drew Shea added a double, a single, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Sam Horne led Ellsworth with a two-run double, and Jared Hamilton added a two-run single.

At Old Town, Cole Daniel hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to break a 6-6 tie and help lead Old Town past Bangor West.

Kaleb Gifford had a three-run double in Old Town’s four-run second inning, and Nick Magoon had a two-run double in the third and two singles. Baxter Smith added an RBI single after Daniel’s home run in the fifth. Ethan Stoddard recorded the win for Old Town after relieving Smith in the fourth.

Derek Fournier had two singles and an RBI, Peter Kemble had two singles, and Alex McKenney added an RBI single for Bangor West.

Guidelines for host team

For Little League baseball and softball all-star games, it is the responsibility of the host team to report the game to the BDN because the host is responsible for providing the official scorer.

The host team is encouraged to report the game as soon as possible on the day it is played and to provide highlights and details for both of the teams in the game. If details, including first names of players, are not given for both teams, then a story will not be published on the game.

The BDN asks for a complete linescore with score by innings and total runs, hits and errors along with all the pitchers and catchers, and innings they entered the game.

Highlights for both teams should include batters who get two or more hits, get an extra base hit or drive in runs.
