Moosehead Sanitary District to hear reports this week

GREENVILLE— Moosehead Sanitary District directors will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the district office, to discuss lagoon sludge and the Department of Enviromental Protection inspection, and to elect officers, among other business.

Guilford residents to hold town-wide yardsale

GUILFORD— A town-wide yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16, in Guilford.

Two organizations to benefit from bocce tournament in Sangerville July 17

SANGERVILLE—The Bangor Humane Society and Womancare Aegis Association will hold the annual Henry Memorial Bocce Tournament at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 17, just beyond the East Sangerville Grange.

The event is hosted by Diane Boretos, a longtime supporter of the work of the Humane Society and an animal rights advocate.

The first event raised $1,800 for the Humane Society, and this year Boretos invited Womancare, a community organization working to end domestic abuse in Piscataquis County and surrounding communities, to join in the event. Boretos recognizes the importance of raising awareness about the connections between animal abuse and other forms of domestic violence. The two organizations will split the proceeds.

Five teams will compete with one another on the bocce court and each has been challenged to raise $500 through pledges from supporters. The public is invited to watch and cheer for the participants.

Yard sale to benefit suicide awareness and prevention organization

ABBOT—The J.D. Foundation will hold its annual yard sale starting at 8 a.m. Friday, July 22, at the home of Vic and Cheryl Morin at the intersection on Route 15 in Abbot. The proceeds from the sale will benefit the organization which works to prevent suicides.

D-F Kiwanis collecting items for annual auction

DOVER-FOXCROFT—The Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club is collecting items for its annual auction to be held on July 29-31, at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft.

Members are looking for large items for auction from furniture to boats and automobiles. Donations are also being sought for the bargain barn which is operated by the Foxcroft Academy Key Club and the book barn which includes records, compact discs, DVDs, puzzles and children’s games. The proceeds will support the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Childrens Charities for local children.
