Christ Church of Faith to hold Beach Bash for children


OLD TOWN, Maine — The Christ Church of Faith invites children ages 4-12 to a Beach Bash from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at 2274 Bennoch Road in Old Town. Summer reading events scheduled at Bangor Public Library

BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Public Library will host summer reading program events Monday-Friday, July 18-22, at the library. “Crafty Critters” at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 18; “Bake Better Biscuits” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 19; “Mother Goose” at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 20; “Trip to Zambia” at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 21; in the library’s Storyroom. “Time for a Luau” at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, on the patio by the Children’s Room. Public baked bean supper to be served Saturday in Charleston

CHARLESTON, Maine — The Charleston Historical Society will sponsor a baked bean and strawberry shortcake supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the municipal building. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12, with proceeds to benefit the society.

Monson’s Summer Festival to be held July 15-16

MONSON, Maine — Several events are on tap for Monson’s Summer Festival on Friday and Saturday, July 15-16, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday with the General Store Jammers at the Monson General Store.

Saturday’s event will begin at 8 a.m. with the Lake Hebron Slate Man Triathlon. Teams must registered prior to July 15 at the town office. Other events will include children’s games, a book signing by Barbara Mauzy at Lake Hebron Artisans, face painting, a showing of teapots, and the Lake Hebron Artisans’ cafe will be open. There also will be a craft fair and an “Anything floats” race.

Also on Saturday, businesses in the community will be offering lunch specials, Breakneck Ridge Buffalo Farm in Blanchard will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Monson Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a special presentation, “Maine’s Waterfalls.” The Monson alumni Association will host its social hour at the gymnasium followed by the annual banquet.

Dancing to live music will be offered at the Lakeshore House from 8 to 11 p.m. and fireworks at 9:15 p.m. by the gymnasium.
