Belfast artist releases music for those who have lost a baby

The loss of a baby is an indescribable shock to the expecting parents, their family and friends, and that is why healing musician Amy Robbins-Wilson of Belfast has made and recently released a collection of music that she hopes will provide comfort to people during this time of overwhelming grief.

Amy performed this music live for the first time at First United Methodist Church on Essex Street in Bangor at a recent event to benefit Empty Arms Healthcare Charities, which is an organization supporting local parents who have lost children.

Because this community of parents refers to their lost children as “angel babies,” Amy chose to name her new CD “Angel Baby Lullabies – for those who have lost a child.”

The project began this spring, when Amy was approached by Susannah Pabot, an artist from Brown University in Providence, R.I., about providing music for her art exhibit titled “I Gave You Words/Field of Cradles” as a way to help raise awareness of preeclampsia, which is the sudden onset of high blood pressure during pregnancy.

According to the Preeclampsia Foundation, this condition is one of the leading causes of stillbirths in the U.S. and each year claims the lives of 500,000 infants worldwide.

As the mother of Clayton Wilson, the 2010 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals “Miracle Child” for Maine, Amy immediately was drawn to the project.

“Lullabies are, in their essence, music of comfort and healing,” she said. “They recall memories of love and safety and warmth from our earliest days on earth. It’s my hope that parents and families who have lost a child will find a comforting, open and supportive place to mourn their loss.”

Amy recently received an online comment that the CD is meeting its goal, she told me.

The email said, “Thank you, Amy, for this lullaby, for showing me the way to the tears I needed to cry.”

The next stop for the art exhibit is Sunday, July 24, at Castle Island Park in Boston, where it will be shown in conjunction with The Promise Walk for Preeclampsia .
