CALAIS — Derrick Bernosky’s three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning propelled Hampden to an 8-5 victory over Calais in the opener of their American Legion baseball doubleheader Monday.
Hampden completed the sweep with a 9-4 win in the nightcap, shortened to six innings due to darkness.
In the first game, Bernosky also posted three singles and a fourth RBI for Hampden, Justin Rodgerson added a double, a single and an RBI and Matt Palmer singled twice.
Bryce Colbeth led Calais with a solo homer in the sixth and two singles and his sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh sent the game to extra innings. Nick Pineo rapped two singles.
In the second game, Reid McGinley’s RBI double capped a four-run third inning that secured the win for Hampden (13-6). Kevin Frederick topped Hampden with four singles and an RBI, Palmer recorded a double, two singles and an RBI, Rodgerson contributed three singles and one RBI and McGinley also hit a single.
David Cropley topped Calais (7-11) with four singles, and Adam Geel singled twice and had two RBIs.
