CARMEL, Maine — Area residents helped lead police to the whereabouts of a local man who was involved in a hit-and-run last week, Maine State Police Trooper Michael Johnston said Monday.

Jesse Cyr, 39, was charged at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday with operating a motorcycle without the proper endorsement, operating an unregistered vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failing to provide proof of insurance.

Cyr lives about a mile from where he crashed a red Suzuki Katana 750 sports-style motorcycle July 5 on Cook Road. He ran off the road and struck a mailbox before crashing into the ditch, Johnston said.

“He tried to drive out” of the ditch and was unsuccessful, the trooper said.

Cyr bought the motorcycle last fall, Johnston said. “He was going to the store” when the collision occurred, the trooper added. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
