BANGOR, Maine — A state trooper stopped a man under the influence of bath salts and other drugs from stealing a local woman’s purse early Monday afternoon, according to Bangor police Sgt. Robert Bishop.

Trooper Christopher Cookson was traveling on Grove Street when he reportedly saw Eric Junkins, 35, trying to take a woman’s purse. Cookson “stopped the crime” and subdued Junkins, who was taken to Penobscot County Jail, Bishop said.

After Cookson made the arrest, Bangor police were called to the scene. When police searched Junkins, they reportedly found cocaine. Junkins was charged with possession of schedule W drugs.

Bangor police Officer Dan Sanborn has taken over the case and more charges may be pending.
