MONSON, Maine — A local man who allegedly beat up a woman and threatened her with a baseball bat was arrested Saturday night on domestic violence assault and criminal threatening charges.

Greg Lewis, 38, of Monson was arrested without resistance and taken to the Piscataquis County Jail about 9 p.m.

The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department initially received a call that reported a woman had been badly beaten up and that the man who had assaulted her had left and was holding people hostage at a Center Street home, according to Lt. Robert Young of the Sheriff’s Department.

When police arrived, the woman reported that she had been thrown across a room, choked and threatened with a baseball bat, Young said. She said she managed to get outside the house.

The woman had injuries to her throat. The woman was treated for her injuries.

Young said Lewis never left the home and had not been holding anyone hostage.

State police and Greenville police assisted deputies at the scene.
