Togus VA hospital to oversee veterans’ treatment in Caribou

The Associated Press

CARIBOU, Maine — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is going to provide care to Maine veterans in Caribou.

Under a program known as Project ARCH, the VA hospital in Togus will oversee treatment for veterans at Cary Medical Center in Caribou.

Rep. Mike Michaud, ranking Democrat on the Veterans’ Affairs health subcommittee, pushed for the program that became law in 2008. He said he’s happy to see it up and running in Caribou, which is one of five pilot sites that the VA is establishing across the country as part of Project ARCH.

Sen. Susan Collins, who grew up in Caribou, said the program will reduce the need for veterans in and around Caribou to travel long distances for care.
