HERMON — Rain and a thunder and lightning storm threw a wrench in the works Wednesday night during the Varney GMC-Buick-Mazda Wacky Wednesday racing program at Speedway 95.
Racers were able to complete all of the qualifying heats, which means the postponed feature races will be run July 13 in conjunction with the regularly scheduled evening program.
Ted Ryder of Carmel and Darren Durrell of Newburgh each won one of the two qualifying races for the Little Enduro Series race and will start on the front row when the 25-lap series feature is run.
Other heat race winners from the night were Danielle Beale of Hampden in the Ladies and Emma Libby of Glenburn in the Stars of Tomorrow. Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton took the win in the Pickup Trucks and Ed Cobb Jr. of LaGrange topped the field in the Big Enduros.
The next regularly scheduled show at the speedway is Saturday at 7 p.m.
Following next Wednesday’s show, Speedway 95 will complete a midweek doubleheader by moving its Saturday night show to Thursday, July 14. The featured event that night is the “Wreaths Across America” Ikey Dorr Memorial 50-lap event for Street Stocks.
Promoter Chuck Hall says he has cars coming from as far away as Canada to race for the $1,000 top prize and expects at least 40 cars to attempt to qualify. The purse also includes $20 for each lap led.
The regular Dysart’s Late Models, Sportsmen, Sport-Fours and Bombers will also be in action July 14. There will be no racing at Speedway 95 on Saturday July 17.
