CARMEL, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred near 483 Cook Road at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The crash involved a red Suzuki Katana 750 sports-style motorcycle that was traveling north on Cook Road which ran off the road and struck a mailbox before crashing into the ditch.

The operator was seen trying to drive the motorcycle out of the ditch, and when that proved unsuccessful, last was seen walking south on Cook Road. It is not believed that the operator was seriously injured as he was not limping and appeared to be walking without difficulty.

Witnesses describe the male operator as being tall and slender with short black hair wearing dark pants and a dark-colored shirt.

Investigation has revealed that the motorcycle came from a residence on Swett Road. Witnesses also report having seen the driver and motorcycle being operated on that road frequently this summer. Investigation is continuing into the cause of the crash and why the operator fled the scene.

Anyone with information should call state police at 800-432-7381.
