MILBRIDGE, Maine — After two people reported hearing cries for help about 7:45 p.m. near Fish Point, Washington County Sgt. Timothy Tabbutt, an off-duty Gouldsboro police officer, Marine Patrol officers, game wardens and the U.S. Coast Guard began a search of the area.

After more than two hours, no sign of anyone in trouble was found, either on land or at sea, according to the Washington County Regional Communications Center. At 10 p.m., several officers and the Coast Guard remained on the scene. No boats were reported overdue or persons missing to either the Coast Guard or communications center.
