MACHIAS — Shelby Cote fired a four-hitter and racked up 14 strikeouts Tuesday afternoon to lead Down East Family YMCA/Ellsworth to the District 1 ages 9-10 softball championship with a 7-2 victory over Machias.
Katey Bagley knocked in three runs with two singles for the winners, who advance to the state tournament, which begins July 16 in Glenburn. Cote stroked a triple for Ellsworth.
Lydia Day singled twice to back losing pitcher Laine Perry, who added a single.

At Blue Hill, Drew Shea hit a game-winning RBI triple in the fifth inning, and added two singles and two runs scored as Acadian Little League defeated Coastal in 9-10 all-stars action.
Oliver Johnston had a double, two singles, two runs scored and an RBI for Acadian. Hunter Dougherty, Jacob Mitchell and Johnston combined to give up only two hits on the mound.
Gavin Mote and Parker Allen each had singles for Coastal.

At Old Town, Zach Duncan drove in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning to help lead Holbrook past Hampden in 10-11 all-star action.
Nate Galinski hit an RBI single in the sixth that tied the game, and Duncan drove in the winning run with his single later in the inning. Nate Smith led Holbrook with a two-run triple in the first inning, an RBI single in the fourth and another single. Collin Rhoads-Doyle had a double and an RBI, and Galinski added another single.
Zachary Flannery had a double, single and two RBIs, Jacob Cyr had two singles and an RBI, Dillon Stanley had two singles, and Noah Larson contributed a double for Hampden.

At Sebasticook Valley, Sam Southwick’s RBI single highlighted a three-run fourth inning that carried Sebasticook Valley to victory over Orrington.
Brad Allen also had an RBI single for the winners (2-0) behind relief winner Cody Rice, who contributed a single and three stolen bases. Johnny Bowman added a single and stole two bases.
Darrin Hanscom hit a run-scoring single and Paul Branch singled for Orrington (0-2), which was eliminated.
