Bread wheat production field day set at UM Rogers Farm

By Judy Harrison, BDN Staff

STILLWATER — The University of Maine will hold a field day from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Rogers Farm on Bennoch Road. It will highlight research on bread wheat production for farmers, crop advisers and others in the agricultural community.

UMaine agricultural researchers and Cooperative Extension faculty will present field research and information on bread wheat. Specific topics will include growing wheat in rotation with dairy feed and forage crops, bread-wheat varieties, top-dressing nitrogen trials, alternative weed management strategies for wheat, frost-seeding clovers into winter grains and microbial soil inoculants for wheat.

A Cooperative Extension video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eliL4O96c_g&feature=youtu.be, also includes information about developing locally grown wheat for bread, with discussions about Maine bread, wheat crops and milling.
