Two people critically injured in Lubec crash

LUBEC, Maine — Two people were critically injured Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Route 191 in Lubec, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department said.

Jeremy Jipson, 22, of Lincoln, the car’s driver, and his passenger, Jessica Munson, 21, of Orrington, were both ejected from Jipson’s 2003 Nissan Maxima and landed in the roadway.

The car, which was southbound, went off the side of the road and overturned several times. Neither Jipson nor Munson were wearing a seat belt, according to Washington County sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Allen.

Allen said alcohol was not a factor in the crash but he is still investigating whether speed played a role. Both victims were taken by ambulance to Down East Community Hospital in Machias. Jipson was then taken by LifeFlight air ambulance to a Bangor hospital and Munson was taken by LifeFlight ground ambulance, also to Bangor.

Allen said both were in critical condition with head injuries. He said a nearby resident heard the 11:30 a.m. crash and called police.

Allen was assisted at the scene by Washington County sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Rolfe, Lubec Ambulance and Down East EMS.
