MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, Maine — Park rangers and emergency responders were kept busy Saturday with several injury reports.
Just after noon, a 12-year-old girl had a major asthma attack on the carriage roads by Eagle Lake, according to Park Dispatcher Leslie Dykes. Park rangers stabilized the girl by giving her oxygen and she was taken by ambulance to Mount Desert Hospital for treatment.
Shortly after 4 p.m., Mount Desert Search and Rescue assisted park rangers in carrying out Vicki Wiley Willis, 41, of Tennessee, who suffered a serious ankle injury when she fell on the Bowl Trail by The Beehive. Wiley Willis was taken to MDI Hospital in a patrol car.
Park rangers also assisted a family whose child had a fishhook impaled in his eyeball. According to Dykes, the father removed the hook and the boy was taken by private vehicle to MDI Hospital.
