Searsport churches plan patriot hymn sing, field day July 4

SEARSPORT, Maine — The church families of the Searsport United Methodist Church and North Searsport United Methodist Church will hold joint celebrations this weekend to celebrate the Fourth of July.

The second Patriotic Hymn Sing will be held 10 a.m. Sunday as part of a joint worship experience under the auction tent outside the Searsport United Methodist Church on Route 1.

The churches will hold their annual Field Day beginning at 9 a.m. July 4. Activities will include a craft sale, lunch wagon, children’s games and dunk tank. An auction featuring items donated by church members and local businesses also will be held. Proceeds will be used to support the ministries of both churches.

Milo church sets Strawberry Festival supper

MILO — The United Methodist Women of the Park Street United Methodist Church, 15 Park St., will hold its Strawberry Festival supper at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 7, in the fellowship hall.

The menu includes ham, potato salad, coleslaw, peas, rolls, beverages and strawberry shortcake. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $3.50 for children under 12.

Proceeds will benefit the Park Street UMC’s mission projects.

Yard sale set at Methodist church in Bangor

BANGOR — The First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex St., will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, July 8, and Saturday, July 9.

Items may be donated for the yard sale from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, July 5-7.

Items for sale will include antiques, small appliances, books, baby items, clothes, household items, tools and more.

Heroes theme of vacation Bible school in Machias

MACHIAS — Heroes will be the theme of vacation Bible school at

Centre Street Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 9 Centre St., from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, July 11-14, for children from preschool through grade 5.

A kickoff event will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at the

church. Although school will not be held the morning of Friday, July 15, a picnic will be held at 6 p.m. that day.

Bible lessons for the week will center on heroes and range from the story of an army officer going to Jesus to the story of a little boy sharing his food and helping Jesus feed the hungry.

A group of about 20 youths and adults from Epler’s United Church of

Christ in Leesport, Pa., will lead activities based on the curriculum “Hero Headquarters.” The group led vacation Bible school at their own church last year and decided to take their skills on the road to share with others, according to the Rev. Dave Bushnell, pastor of the Pennsylvania church.
