Hermon youth qualifies for 200 final in national track meet

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — An 11-year-old from Hermon is headed to final round of the 200-meter dash in the USA Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championships after qualifying for the event Thursday.

James Petersen finished a 200 heat in 26.64 seconds to qualify for the final in the ages 11-12 age group on Saturday.

Petersen will also be trying to advance in two other events as he competes in heat races in the 400 and 100 on Friday.

Seraphina Provenzano of Holden also is competing in the national meet as she finished in 2:34.68 in the 800 for ages 13-14 on Thursday, but did not advance to the final. She will also be competing in the 1,500 on Friday.

Last year, Petersen won the 400 for ages 9-10 at the Hershey Track and Field North American Final.
