BANGOR, Maine — A man who bought a beer at a State Street store Wednesday night and then proceeded to drink it in the parking lot was warned to stop drinking in public and later was arrested after he passed out behind a trash receptacle, police said.

A clerk at the Big Apple store called police at 6:10 p.m. to report that David Bryant, 54, who is listed as a local transient, was drinking beer outside the store, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said Thursday.

When police arrived they found Bryant with a beer in his hands and he continued to drink it, the lieutenant said. “He was warned to stop drinking his beer in public and he left the scene. About a half an hour later the officer was called back and he was passed out behind the Dumpster.”

Bryant was arrested, charged with criminal trespass and taken to the Penobscot County Jail. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
