BANGOR, Maine — Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine is asking people to support the 1 campaign and Join RMCH for 1 Friday, July 1, by adding one penny, one dime, quarter or dollar to the RMHC Donation Boxes at McDonald’s restaurants in Maine and eastern New Hampshire. Organizers of the event say that even one penny can make a difference in the lives of children and families.
“While some may think that one penny or some spare change can’t really mean much, we know that for RMHC families, small change means having the resources and stability they desperately need at a critical time in their child’s life,” stated Gary Eckmann, President of the Board of Trustees, RMHC of Maine. “There’s strength in numbers and we are very thankful for the McDonald’s customers who help to support families through our programs by donating their change all year long.”
In 2010, McDonald’s customers in Maine and eastern New Hampshire donated more than $100,000 in spare change to the RMHC collection canisters. In turn, RMHC of Maine granted a total of $164,165 to 16 nonprofit organizations across the state that help Maine children and families lead happier, healthier and more productive lives. RMHC of Maine also supports the Ronald McDonald Houses in Bangor and Portland, as well as the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
RMHC of Maine was founded in 1989 by the owner-operators of McDonald’s restaurants in Maine and eastern New Hampshire as a way to give back to the community. Since then, RMHC of Maine has grown from a small not-for-profit organization to a powerful force of change in our communities and in our children’s lives. Over the past 21 years, RMHC of Maine has granted more than $1.7 million to local children’s programs that make a measurable impact in Maine’s communities. Beyond sharing spare change, there are other ways to get involved and support this important cause. RMHC invites people to RSVP for the Join Us for 1 event day on the Charity’s Facebook event page, display the 1 campaign badge on websites and blogs, and encourage friends and followers to join by passing the word to others in their community. Information about getting involved with this campaign is available now at rmhc.org and other social media channels such as Twitter, Flickr and YouTube.
