Fourth of July celebrations planned


BANGOR AREA — Fourth of July Parade, sponsored by Bangor, Bangor Breakfast, Brewer, Hampden and Orono-Old Town Kiwanis clubs, 11 a.m. July 4, junction of Acme Road and Wilson Street, Brewer, down Wilson Street, across Chamberlain Bridge, right down Main Street in Bangor, up State Street, right onto Exchange Street, disband by TD Bank. Floats, music, entertainment, veterans groups, Scouts, Scout leaders. Veterans to march by era, meet 10 a.m. Wilson Street, Brewer, or take Cyr buses from Exchange Street, Bangor, at 9:15 a.m. to ride to Brewer. Veterans may ride buses during parade. Buses will take veterans back to their cars afterward for those who park in Brewer.

BANGOR AREA — Walter L. Hunt Memorial Race, 10:45 a.m. July 4, from Brewer Auditorium, Wilson Street, across Joshua Chamberlain Bridge, then down Main Street in Bangor.

BANGOR — Bangor Band, Independence Day concert, 7 p.m. July 4, Paul Bunyan Park bandstand, Main Street. Attendees encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

BANGOR AREA — Fireworks sponsored by Bangor Area Fourth of July Corp., dusk, July 4, over Penobscot River between Bangor and Brewer.

BREWER — Bangor Kiwanis Club pancake breakfast, 6-10 a.m. July 4, Brewer Auditorium. Strawberries from Tate’s strawberry farm, coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts of Brewer, with support from Dennis Paper and Food Service and Hilton Garden Inn. $5, $4 age 12 and under.

BROOKLIN — Dedication of new veterans memorial, 9 a.m. July 4, at the town office, just before the start of the Fourth of July parade.

BROOKS — Fourth of July activities: community breakfast, 7:30 p.m., Varney Building; a 5-mile run and 5k walk, 8 a.m., sign-in 7 a.m., Brooks Community Park; town parade, 10 a.m.; also at the park: horse pull, children’s events, pig scramble, chicken barbecue and chili cook-off featuring chili from Waldo County fire departments, live music from Belfast Bay Fiddlers, The Rugged and Don Nickerson and Country Mist; fireworks celebration, 10 p.m. Gate price at the park, $2, free age 12 and under.

CASTINE — Castine Town Band celebration of the nation’s birthday, musical gala at 4 p.m. July 4, Town Common, Court Street. Free. In case of rain, concert held in Emerson Hall, across the street from the Town Common.

FRANKFORT — Fourth of July parade, 9 a.m. July 4, from Loggin Road to the village to Frankfort Congregational Church.

EASTPORT — Calithumpian Parade forms at the post office, 8:30 a.m. July 4, craft fair and vendors downtown, truck and car show downtown, U.S. Coast Guard open house at breakwater, 11 a.m. blueberry pie eating contest, noon doll carriage parade, 2 p.m. grand parade downtown, fireworks at dusk.

GREENVILLE — July 4 activities: 9 a.m. craft fair, children’s events and book fair; 11 a.m. parade; 1 p.m. children’s bicycle parade and contest, cake decorating contest and tasting; 5:30 p.m. outdoor concert; and 9 p.m. fireworks from East Cove. The rain date for the fireworks is July 5 at dusk.

LUBEC — Fourth of July Bicentennial Jubilee at 10:30 a.m. July 4, in Monument Park.
