Veazie woman arrested, charged with domestic assault against adult son

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

VEAZIE, Maine — A local woman with a history of domestic assault is back behind bars for the same offense, police said.

Police Chief Mark Leonard received a report of an intoxicated woman at a residence Monday afternoon. When he arrived at the home of 47-year-old Sherri Clifford, he said he discovered that Clifford, who has a prior conviction for domestic assault, had struck her 24-year-old son in the nose and mouth.

The victim did not require any medical treatment despite having a chipped tooth, Leonard said, but the suspect suffered self-inflicted wounds and was checked out by Orono-Veazie rescue personnel before being taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where she remained on Tuesday.

Clifford’s court date is set for Aug. 17 at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor.
