All-star tourneys roundup: Bangor West, Hermon post baseball wins

BANGOR — Alex McKenney hit a grand slam in the third inning to help lift Bangor West by Holbrook 6-4 in a District 3 Little League all-star baseball game Monday for ages 11-12.

Derek Fournier doubled and singled for Bangor West. Peter Kemble and Jesse Colford added two singles apiece.

Nick Siebert led Holbrook with an RBI double. Tyler Timms and Alex Maxsimic each added an RBI single.

Hermon 5, Katahdin 0

At Hermon, Tyler Beaton, Ryan Hoogterp and Matt Leach combined on a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and no walks to lead Hermon by Katahdin.

Hoogterp hit a double and scored a run for Hermon while Matt Leach scored two runs.

Thomas Prescott hit a double for Katahdin.

Houlton 18, Orono-Veazie 2

At Houlton, Billy Phillips hit a three-run home run, a two-run home run and an RBI double to propel Houlton by Orono-Veazie in four innings.

Nate Mooers and Conner Grant each posted a double, a single and two RBIs for Houlton. Nick Cowperthwaite chipped in with an RBI triple.

Kennan Collett singled and scored a run for Orono-Veazie.

At Bar Harbor, pinch runner James McConomy scored on a passed ball with one out in the fourth inning to give Acadian the run it needed for the victory.

Winning pitcher Riley Swanson walked to open the bottom of the fourth and McConomy was sent in to run for him.

Aaron Snurkowski’s one-out single moved McConomy to third before he scored on the passed ball.

Swanson struck out nine, walked one and gave up three hits, while Calais pitcher Dane Maceac also gave up three hits, struck out five and walked two.

Andrew Phelps and Swanson also singled for Acadian. Michael Grimanis posted a triple, and Gregg Mitchell and Logan Barnes had singles.

Calais had runners on first and second with one out in the first inning. They moved up on a fielder’s choice, but a strikeout ended the inning.

In the second, Grimanis tripled with two outs, but a groundout to second base ended Calais’ last big threat to score.

Coastal 6, Bucksport 0

At Blue Hill, Garrison Looke pitched six-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and no walks to power Coastal by Bucksport.

Looke helped his own cause with a two-run double in the third inning for the winners. Jacob Bowden added to the lead with a three-run home run in the fifth. Jacob Keenan chipped in with a double.

Austin Mason posted two singles for Bucksport.

Ellsworth 5, Machias 4

At Ellsworth, Nick Bagley collected four hits, including a two-run homer, and also struck out all four hitters he faced to pick up the win in relief as Ellsworth rallied past Machias.

Andrew Brown doubled in the sixth inning and eventually scored the winning run on a passed ball.

Hunter Cote had a game-tying two-run homer in the fifth for Ellsworth.

Cam Varney drove in two runs for Machias with a homer and a double and Kade Feeney singled for Machias’ only other hit.

Lincoln 28, Glenburn-Orono 15

At Hermon, Katie Tolman collected two singles, a double and four RBIs as Lincoln topped Glenburn-Orono.

Lincoln advances to play in the championship game on Wednesday.

Haley McLaughlin posted three singles and five RBIs for the winners. Moriah Smith had three singles and four RBIs while Kim Vousine and Whitney Taylor added three singles apiece.

Molly McCluskey hit two singles and knocked in two runs for Glenburn-Orono. Mackenzie Campbell and Faith Fugal each had two singles and an RBI.

At Hermon, Julia Sicard hit five singles and drove in two runs as Hampden rolled past Lincoln.

Courtney Dunton registered three singles, a double and three RBIs for Hampden. Tessa Dinardo had two singles and three RBIs while Cassidy Tucker added a double.

Emma Page led Lincoln with two singles and two RBIs. Katie Nelson chipped in with an RBI single.

For Little League baseball and softball all-star games, it is the responsibility of the host team to report the game to the BDN because the host is responsible for providing the official scorer.

The host team is encouraged to report the game as soon as possible on the day it is played and to provide highlights and details for both of the teams in the game. If details, including first names of players, are not given for both teams, then a story will not be published on the game.

The BDN asks for a complete linescore with score by innings and total runs, hits and errors along with all the pitchers and catchers, and innings they entered the game.

Highlights for both teams should include batters who get two or more hits, get an extra base hit or drive in runs.
