Prior thefts elevate charge against Winterport woman to felony

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BREWER, Maine — Local police charged a Winterport woman with felony theft Monday after she allegedly attempted to shoplift a variety of small items at Walmart.

It was not the dollar amount of the items that resulted in the felony charge against Niki Quimby, 32, Brewer police Cpl. Nelson Feero said late Monday afternoon. Rather, it was because Quimby had at least two prior theft convictions, he said.

Brewer police were called to Walmart after a loss prevention officer reportedly saw Quimby conceal items including candy, gum, a magazine and food in a bag that she brought into the store with her, Feero said. The total dollar value of the items was less than $100, he said.
