BUCKSPORT — In January, 140 Bucksport Bay area residents formed 14 teams to participate in the 2011 Get Fit — Let’s Go. The program educates and encourages team members to lose weight, increase physical activity and develop healthier lifestyles. The teams Ate Enough, Buckaroo Health Club, Chubby Buddies, Chubby Bubbies & Skinny Minnies, C.U. Fit, First Class Losers, Friends and Families, Hearts and Soles, Heavy Hitters, Miss Fits, Misfits, Muffin Tops, Off Our Rockers, and Think Slim were formed at businesses and schools with friends and relatives.
Over the course of the nine-week program, team members participated in weekly educational meetings that included topics on cardiovascular health, food journals, nutrition, stretching, breathing and deep relaxation, tai chi, herbs for a healthy heart and planning a spring garden.
In the spring, team members gathered at the Orland Consolidated School to celebrate their success in reaching their goals. Get Fit — Let’s Go Teams lost 958.38 pounds and increased physical activity by 190,487 minutes, or 3,174 hours. Team Think Slim achieved the highest weight-loss average. Team Miss Fits scored the highest average for increased physical activity. Pam Fleming was honored for the highest physical activity level. Cindy Pelletier lost the most weight.
