BREWER, Maine — A Dedham man who was seen on Marden’s video surveillance cameras Sunday morning switching price tags and concealing items was charged with theft after he left the Wilson Street surplus and salvage store, Brewer police Capt. Jason Moffitt said Monday.

Joshua Soper, 26, was observed “peeling off price tags and concealing small items in a box, like a nail box, and resealing it,” the police captain said. “He went through the line and paid [a reduced amount] for everything, except for the concealed items.”

Soper was charged with theft for switching the price tags and stealing the concealed items.

Switching price tags is a common crime at Marden’s, Moffitt said. “They’re down there a few times a week,” he said of his officers. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
