Penquis edges Acadians for Legion baseball win

BLUE HILL — Kevin Leary hit a two-run double to highlight a three-run fifth inning as Penquis held off the Acadians for a 4-3 victory in American Legion Zone 1 baseball action Sunday.

Casey Jordan drove in what proved to be the winning run for 1-5 Penquis on an RBI double in the eighth inning. Kevin Stafford chipped in with two singles.

Schuyler Van der Eb led the 0-7 Acadians with two singles and an RBI. Gabe Stearns and Rob Logue added two singles apiece.

Motor City sweeps Calais

At Bangor, Chris Hammond pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and no earned runs as Motor City topped Calais 2-1 in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader.

Motor City defeated Calais in the first game 3-0.

In the first game, Phil Benoit tossed six-hit shutout to earn the win for Motor City. Chris Hammond hit a double and an RBI single while Cody Cross chipped in with an RBI single.

Tyler Varney and Tim Barnes hit two singles apiece for Calais while John Garnett added a double.

In the second game, Hammond hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to drive in the eventual winning run for 4-4 Motor City. Sean O’Donnell hit two singles and knocked in a run while Casey Estes tripled.

Jordan Perry doubled and scored a run for 2-6 Calais. David Cropley added an RBI single.

Brewer 11, Lincoln 3

At Brewer, Cody Farrell hit three singles and knocked in four runs as Brewer rolled past Lincoln Sunday.

Brandon Gendreau sparked a five-run fourth inning with a three-run home run for 5-2 Brewer. Tyler French added two singles and an RBI.

Ted Walker singled twice for 4-2 Lincoln while A.J. Harris contributed an RBI double.

At Bangor, Justin Amoroso hit a three-run home run and a two-run single to propel 6-1 Hampden by Bangor Sunday.

Dylan Morris led Bangor (6-1) with two singles and four RBIs. Anthony Capuano doubled while Jesse Wood added an RBI single.

Rockland sweeps Madison

At Rockland, Amato’s of Rockland recorded two Zone 2 victories over Madison, 13-5 in five innings and 8-4.

In the first game, Luke Morrill singled twice and doubled to lead the winners. Joey Nelsen chipped in with a single and double and Drew Townsend added two singles. Anthony Campagnoli and Bryant Mathews each doubled. Morrill also recorded the win on the mound.

In the second game, Billy Joyce scattered six hits over five innings to record the victory for Rockland. Cameron Gartley chipped in with a triple.
