BAR HARBOR — Jeannie Brett, illustrator of the new children’s book, “My Cat, Coon Cat,” will read from and sign copies of the book 5-8 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Sherman’s Books and Stationary, 56 Main St. and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, July 10, at Stone Soup, 113 Main St. For information about the Sherman’s event call 288-3161; for the Stone Soup event call 288-5219.

BAR HARBOR — Dr. Douglas Tallamy, chair of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware, will share his knowledge of insects as part of the College of Atlantic’s summer Coffee and Conversation Series, 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, at the Deering Comon Community Center. At 7 p.m., Tallamy will discuss the ecological roles of the native plants in our landscapes and gardens. BLUE HILL — Dr. Lou Pack will give a talk about his new book, “Arthritis Revolution: Latest Research on Staying Active Without Pain Medication or Surgery,” 5 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Blue Hill Public Library. Books will be available for sale and signing. For information, call 374-5515.

CAMDEN — Photographer Josie Iselin will present a talk with images from her newest book, “Beach: A Book of Treasure,” 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the Camden Public Library. Sherman’s Books and Stationary will have copies of her books for signing. Her photographs also will be on display at the Archipelago Gallery in Rockland from June 24 to Aug. 19.

PORTLAND — Harrison Thorp will read from and sign copies of his book, “Freak the News: Journalistic High Jinks in a Small Maine Town,”noon, Wednesday, June 29, at the Portland Public Library. Event-goers are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and enjoy an informal discussion of the book. Signed copies will be available at a discounted price of $12.

SEARSPORT — Linda Greenlaw and her mother, Martha, will be at a book signing of “The Maine Summers Cookbook”, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday, July 1, at Left Bank Books. The event is free and open to the public. For information or to reserve signed copies of Greenlaw’s book, call 548-6400.
