COLUMBIA, Maine — Two people were injured Tuesday in a crash at what is locally called the four corners.

The two cars involved crashed at about 7 a.m. when one pulled onto U.S. Route 1 from Station Road into the path of the other that was headed east on Route 1.

According to Maine State Police Trooper Christopher Smith, Paul Mutty, 55, who was driving a 1994 Chevrolet, did not see the second vehicle when he pulled onto Route 1. The 2005 Saturn operated by Jessica Keen, 20, of Gouldsboro was obscured by a deep dip in the road, Smith said.

The Mutty vehicle was hit broadside by Keen and both vehicles were demolished, Smith said Wednesday. Both Keen and Mutty were taken to Down East Community Hospital for minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts, Smith said.
