ROCKLAND, Maine — A Waldoboro man accused of selling large amounts of marijuana had his first appearance in Rockland District Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Christopher Luce, 24,  turned himself in to police and was arrested Monday morning after 21 pounds of marijuana was found in his vehicle last week. He is charged with trafficking marijuana and is being held at Knox County Jail awaiting $2,500 cash bail.

Maine Drug Enforcement agents, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and Waldoboro police had been investigating Luce for months. They suspect he was selling large amounts of marijuana from his house and business. Luce operates the Shoe Box, a shoe store and head shop in Waldoboro, according to MDEA Supervisor James Pease.

On Thursday, June 16, drug agents approached Luce, who was sitting in his parked SUV at a convenience store in Union. Luce fled into nearby woods on foot, according to Pease.

Several police agencies searched the area, but Luce was not found. Agents, however, discovered 21 pounds of marijuana in the SUV that Luce was driving. The street value of the two large plastic-wrapped bundles of marijuana seized in the bust is $42,000, Pease reported.
