Murder mystery

ORONO — The University of Maine School of Performing Arts production of “The Bat,” a spine-tingling murder mystery by Mary Roberts Rinehart and James Avery Hopwood, continues at 7:30 p.m. June 24-25, and 2 p.m. June 26, at the Pavilion Theatre behind Fogler Library and Winslow Hall on the UMaine campus. Tickets are $10, $7 for students, and are available at http://www.umaine.edu/spa or at the door. ‘Barefoot Soprano’

BREWER — Orrington native Kristyn Murphy will hold a CD release concert, afternoon tea and signing at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Next Generation Theatre, 39 Center St.

Portions of the CD were recorded at My Thrill Studios in Winterport. Maine natives violinist Nate Lesser and cellist John Frankland, both studying music out-of-state, also are featured on the album.

Murphy, a graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor, is studying music business in New York.

“Barefoot Soprano” will be available for purchase from download sites such as iTunes and Amazon later this summer. Tickets to the concert and tea are $10 and can be purchased from the Next Generation Theatre or online from http://www.kristynmurphy.com. Tickets will be available at the door. Rock album release

NEWBURGH — Tate Music Group announces the album release of the Newburgh-based rock artist Dale Overlock. The album is titled “Meet Me Here” and was set to be released last week.

Produced by Tate Music Group, the album includes eight tracks and is currently available from iTunes, Amazon.com and TateMusicGroup.com.

With an appreciation for various genres of music, Overlock blends several different styles in order to create his own. He has played guitar, piano and drums from childhood and has a distinct voice.

Pet artwork contest

BANGOR — Green Acres Kennel Shop is holding its first pet photography and children’s artwork contest. It is seeking entrants for four categories: Dogs and Puppies, Cats and Kittens, Pets at Play (any combinations of a single dog or cat, or multiple dogs and cats at play), and Children’s Art (drawings paintings, etc.) of cats and/or dogs. Up to five entries can be submitted in each category.

Contest entries can be submitted through the Green Acres’ website anytime between June 6 and July 31. All entries will be displayed for online voting at www.greenacreskennel.com during August. Three winners will be selected in each category, and winning art will appear in Green Acres’ first calendar. A grand prize winner will be chosen in the first two weeks of September.
