ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine men’s basketball team will play defending national champion University of Connecticut on Nov. 17.
Maine Coach Ted Woodward says the team takes pride in challenging some of the top programs in the country, but he says it’s exciting to play against the national champions.
Maine last played UConn on Dec. 22, 2009, and held a slim lead in the second half before losing 71-54.
Maine recorded a win over Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College and Penn State from the Big Ten. In addition, the Black Bears have defeated two Atlantic-10 Conference teams, Massachusetts and Fordham.
Woodward was an assistant coach with Connecticut earlier in his career for Coach Jim Calhoun.
