Beatles tribute fundraiser

CAMDEN — Feb. 7, 1964: The Beatles arrived at JFK Airport in New York City on PanAm Flight 101 with thousands of screaming fans clogging every inch of the airport in order to catch just a glimpse of the young lads from Liverpool. Two days later, The Beatles made their first U.S. television appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” — an event viewed by 73 million people, or approximately two-fifths of the American population. This historic event in the annals of popular music is the inspiration behind the benefit event for Northport Music Theater to be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 24-25, at the Camden Opera House.

The show is titled “A Day in The Life: A Beatles Experience,” a multimedia celebration of the most recognized band of all time. The benefit will support the fifth season of Northport Music Theater.

The cast includes director and recent Camden Hills Regional High School graduate Morgan Cates, who plays Paul McCartney on bass guitar and vocals, assisted by Andy Moore (Ringo Starr), drums; Alex Wilder (John Lennon), guitar-vocals; Ben Whitney (George Harrison), guitar-vocals; and Sam McKenna, keyboards. Lighting design is by Brandon Koons; costume design, Anna Grigo; sound design, Bruce Boege; video design, Graham Alexander; set design, stage manager, and poster art, Vanessa Bemis. The show is produced by Northport Music Theater.

There is general admission seating, cash or check only at the door,  and the show lasts for 2½ hours with intermission. Tickets are $18 and there is a discount $14 day-of-show ticket available while supplies last by calling 338-8383 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on show days. Tickets may be purchased online at http://northportmusictheater.com. To reserve a seat call 338-8383.
