BANGOR, Maine — On June 7, WBRC Architects Engineers received an  Award for Design Excellence from the Maine Chapter of Construction Specifications Institute (MCSI) recognizing the firm’s design of a high-tech research facility with the capabilities necessary to meet the users known needs to support current research and the adaptability to meet future needs for ongoing research at the newly completed University of Maine Offshore Wind Laboratory.

The AEWC Offshore Wind Laboratory is nearly 37,000 square feet of lab and office space constructed as an addition to the Advanced Wood Composite facility on the UMaine campus.

Professor Habib J. Dagher, director of the Advanced Structures and Composites Center, said, “WBRC has been essential in designing our offshore wind laboratory, the first U.S. facility capable of designing, construction and testing offshore wind turbines. The WBRC team delivered throughout this technically challenging project.”
