BANGOR, Maine — People’s United Community Foundation recently awarded the Maine Discovery Museum in downtown Bangor a grant in the amount of $5,000 for its new Fit for Fun health exhibit.

For its 10th anniversary, the museum is embarking on a campaign called “10 Years and Growing Stronger” that will allow it to refresh and replace some exhibits. The campaign will also increase capacity building within marketing and development and provide resources for financial sustainability.

The Fit for Fun exhibit consists of four modules presenting visitors with physical challenges that promote exercise and wellness while exploring the scientific aspects of exercise. The exhibit incorporates national school standards for math, measurement, technology and life sciences.

“Having a museum of this magnitude in downtown Bangor is an asset to this region,” said Bill Lucy, officer of the People’s United Community Foundation and division president of People’s United Bank. He added, “It not only provides a wonderful educational experience for all who visit the museum annually, but it also helps increase the tourism in this part of the state. We’re pleased that the People’s United Community Foundation board sees the value in providing this educational experience to the thousands of attendees who visit the museum each year.”

With seven major interactive exhibit areas on three floors, the Maine Discovery Museum is the largest children’s museum north of Boston.
