TRENTON, Maine — Two children were hurt Monday afternoon in a two-car crash on Route 3 near the airport.

At about 1:34 p.m., Tracy Lawonn, 34, of Ellsworth was traveling west on Route 3 just past the airport when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a car driven by Donald Davenport, 66, of Antigonish, New Brunswick, according to Trooper Dan Ryan of the Maine State Police.

Two young passengers in Lawonn’s vehicle suffered minor injuries in the accident and were taken by ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, the trooper said.

Lawonn’s Saturn and Davenport’s Subaru were considered total losses. Davenport was towing a shell camper, which also was demolished in the accident, according to Ryan.

The accident slowed traffic on the busy road to Mount Desert Island, but Ryan said one lane of traffic was kept open.
